Breaking Ground on Medicine Hat's First Built Green Condominium
Classic Construction is pleased to announce they are breaking
ground on their new Built Green development, located at Southlands
Pointe in Medicine Hat, the community’s first Built Green condominium.
Comprised of 88 units, with both 2 and 3 bedroom floorplans, Southlands
Pointe leads the way in Classic style by proving that affordable green
living is within the average homeowner’s reach. The development
is eligible for Classic’s 10 Year Mortgage Assistance Program,
with down payments starting at $3,900 and monthly payments as low
as $521/mo (including condo fees), This makes Southlands Pointe more
affordable than ever for homeowners to enjoy the benefits and cost
savings of living green.
This development will be built using the latest in environmental technology,
known as a Structurally Insulated Panel System (SIPS). This method
is produced right here in Medicine Hat, through Classic Panels, a
related company of Classic Construction Ltd. SIPS technology ensures
that the development is not only environmentally sound, but also stronger
and better insulated against weather, and air infiltration noise.
Never one to sacrifice quality, Classic has also continued to ensure
that each of their units contain their signature granite countertops,
custom cabinets and finishes, with the added quality of many new environmentally
friendly options as well. Standard features such as: high-efficiency
furnaces, tankless hot water heating, Low-E Argon windows, Hardie
plank and stucco durable exteriors, no VOC paint and insulated water
lines that meet the Built Green standards.
With a combined total of more than 340 units sold in their Northlands
Point and Somerset Villas Communities within 14 months, these 88 Built
Green units of Southlands Point are expected to sell quickly, meeting
Medicine Hat’s continued demand for attainable housing, but
now in a Built Green way.
Join Classic Construction as they break ground on this exciting new
initiative with Bernadette Majdell, CMHC Corporate Representative
for Alberta South, a representative from Hat Smart Energy Efficient
program, and Classic Construction’s President Murray Prokosch,
and a host of other local dignitaries.
"We're really excited to be there as Classic Communities breaks
ground at this noteworthy event," says Majdell, "CMHC supports
builders like Classic Communities who are leaders in the development
of sustainable homes and housing that reduces our environmental impact."
Classic Communities Charitable Foundation Strengthening Communities
For years Classic Communities has addressed the issue of housing affordability
by sharing its profits with those who purchase their homes. Each home
owner is entitled to down payment and monthly financial assistance
to offset the cost of home ownership. Without this financial assistance
many would be unable to own their home.
The Classic Communities Charitable Foundation (CCCF) was created
to hold these funds in trust and administer the financial assistance
to homeowners. The net interest earned on these funds is provided
to non-profit groups and charitable organizations in the communities
in which Classic Communities builds, currently Medicine Hat, High
River and Canmore. These organizations are selected on the basis of
their programs “Strengthening Families and Strengthening Communities.”
At 9:00am, Monday October 19th, at the Classic Communities office
located at 671 Industrial Avenue, Classic Communities and the Classic
Communities Charitable Foundation invite you to join them as they
present a cheque in the amount of $91,209 to the Medicine Hat Community
Housing Society (MHCHS). Murray Prokosch, President of the CCCF and
Classic Communities remarks, “This donation not only fulfills
the mission of the CCCF but also continues Classic Communities’
commitment of making housing in Medicine Hat attainable for all.”
“By strengthening families we know we are strengthening our
community,” continued Prokosch. “Our contribution to the
MHCHS ensures the funds go to an organization committed to providing
housing and support to our community’s most vulnerable families
and individuals.”
Part of an ongoing commitment that has seen more than $96,500 previously
granted to the MHCHS, Chief Administrative Officer Robin Miiller says
they are very pleased to have been selected by the CCCF as a recipient.
“We believe strongly in extending a hand to those who find
themselves struggling with life’s circumstances and we try to
do what we can to help them get to a better place,” says Miiller.
“We are thrilled that Classic and the foundation has recognized
the value in the work that we do and want to contribute by providing
financial resources to support us.”
“With the current economic climate and government funding restrictions,”
continues Miiller, “Having additional resources available will
provide some welcome relief.”
